Precious Hope primary school director Samuel Mirieri has asked parents to enroll their children in local schools that he noted provides competitive and quality education rather than taking them outside for the same.
Speaking on Friday at Elimu Academy during a prize giving ceremony, Mirieri said pupils enrolled in local schools had excelled in life.
“We have good schools here but you find our people taking their children outside the region to acquire education. I ask you to utilise the available resources in our schools,” said Mirieri.
He added: “A number of children who have gone through our schools have succeeded academic, spiritual and social in life.”
Precious Hope Academy scored a mean score of 406 marks becoming the second best school in the region after Elimu Academy that posted a mean score of 414 marks. The schools had 30 and 34 candidates respectively in last year’s KCPE whereby all 64 the students got admissions in national schools.
However, he took issue with the abolished ranking of schools arguing the system created healthy competition among learners.
“I laud the government for its efforts towards improving education standards in the country. However, it should restore the ranking system of candidates. The system made learners work hard towards achieving academic excellence,” observed the director.
