There are fears of rigging in the upcoming Malindi by-election after CID officers ransacked a hotel where Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) officers were staying.
The detectives from the CID allegedly forcefully entered the Rafiki Hotel in Malindi where the officers were staying and ransacked their property.
They claimed that there were plans of electoral malpractices ahead of the Monday election.
IEBC chief Isaack Hassan condemned the incident.
"This is unacceptable. We have made an official complaint about the matter. This is serious," said Hassan.
On the other hand, Cord leaders in Mombasa led by Senator Hassan Omar stated that the move was a ploy by the Jubilee Coalition to intimidate the IEBC.
"This looks like a deliberate ploy to affect the outcome of the polls which we will not allow," said Omar.
