Since the opening and rise in popularity of Kenyatta University Funeral Home, there has been a boom of funeral services business in Kahawa Wendani.

Many shops continue to be opened that include lavish casket showrooms, floral shops, hearse and public address systems for hire.

According to Pius Kasuku who runs Preston funeral services, the cultural behaviour of big dignified funerals has led to rise in demand for these services.

"Nowadays people want big and dignified funerals for their loved ones. This has led to rise in demand of expensive coffins to glamourous hearses that colour funerals," said Kasuku.

Kasuku also pointed out that most of their customers do not mind the high cost charged by these outlets for their services.

"Our culture of socially contributing towards funeral expenses of a deceased, make people not to feel pinch when acquiring our services, " he added.

The services are offered in complete packages that includes a coffin, hearse and wreaths or according to customers needs and specifications.

"There are even 'pastors' for hire to conduct funeral services around in case family members needs one," said Carol, a local casket showroom attendant.
