Rhonda Ward in Nakuru has some areas with some hilariously funny names.
Moving around the ward for the first time, you might be forced to keep asking the origin of these names.
The most famous and well-known area is Pondamali which literally means 'squander '. The place is famous for the largest fish market in Nakuru.
Just off Pondamali is Stima Line which is a long stretch that cuts across Kaptembwa and Rhonda estates. The stretch is named after the powerline that lines all the way from Uganda through Nakuru.
Beyond Pondamali is Kipangaway mostly shortened to Kipanga by the residents. The area is popular for cheap fresh foodstuff but also has a reputation for insecurity. However, the area has recently benefitted from road grading and solar lighting.
As you walk towards Langalanga, there is a place called Makaa named after the popular charcoal business along the TopTen Karunga Road. TopTen is named after a popular petrol station.
Within the estate itself, there are funny named places like Pembe Mbili and Nyumba Nyeusi. These are two plots whose owners either knowingly or unwittingly named their buildings thus. Thanks to them, they gave these places a name.
Still in funny names in Rhonda, there is Jua Lako, Takataka, Sewage and Game among others.
Well, it's good 'kujua mitaa'.
