Kisii deputy governor Joash Mangi has called on publishers to assist in stocking the county's libraries with books and other research materials.

Maangi said equipping the libraries would enhance reading culture among Kisii residents.

He was speaking on Thursday when he presided over the launch of the County Suppliers & Bookshop in Kisii Town.

"To boost literacy and create a reading culture among our people, the county government has embarked on construction of community libraries. Two such libraries at Kenyenya and Ogembo towns are complete and are ready for commissioning," said Maangi.

He added: "We would like to partner with publishers and other stakeholders to assist in stocking community libraries that the county government has helped build in the county, such as Ogembo and Kenyenya towns. This is a unique venture that brings services closer to the people."

Maangi said equipping libraries would also enhance the quality of education in the county by availing a wide variety of books and other learning materials.

"It's success should serve as an example to be emulated by women and youths. The county government is committed to supporting business and encourages entrepreneurship," he said.
