St. Charles Lwanga Ichuni Girls school principal Joyce Ogutu believes the institution can break academic dominance in Gusii region that has revolved around their arch rivals Kisii school, Sironga Girls and Nyabururu Girls.

The institution finished third in 2015 Kenya Certificate for Secondary School Education(KCSE) behind Nyambaria Boys and Kisii school, which had mean scores of 10.18 and 10.0 respectively.

According to the long serving school head, the institution has performed consistently in a period of four years and insisted that the girls would not take long before they break the jinx.

“As a school, we are keen to break the dominance our competitors Kisii School, Nyabururu and Sironga High and even Nyambaria. We have performed in a consistent manner and our efforts have been handsomely rewarded in the last four years,” she said during Saturday’s interview with the reporter.

Ms. Ogutu said the institution is keen to record a performance index of 10.5 in 2016 exams after managing 9.90 in highly competitive 2015 exams.

“There was a lot of competition in 2015 yet we managed 9.9. We are confident of at least 10.5 in 2016 and that is achievable. My girls are determined to get that and I am optimistic that this year we will top the region due to our consistency,” Ogutu added.

According to her, the institution will have a total of 104 girls joining public universities on government sponsorship out of 109 who sat for the exams.

“we have 95 %( 104) of our 2015 candidates joining public universities on government sponsorship and that is the highest in the region. What we are aiming though is improving the mean so that we defeat our opponents in subsequent exams,” she said.
