The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission has been urged to make use of social media platforms in mobilising Kenyans to register as voters.

Nakuru County TNA chairman Samuel Githaiga said majority of Kenyans are active on social media which makes it a good platform for IEBC to educate them on the ongoing voter registration exercise.

Githaiga said the use of radio or television might have little impact especially in urban centres where most people are not good radio listeners or TV viewers.

Speaking Wednesday in Nakuru tow, Githaiga said a majority of Kenyan youth and the working class spent most of their time on social media.

"IEBC should run extensive campaigns on social media to educate Kenyans on why they should come out to register and use the platform to mobilise them to do so," he said.

"Almost every Kenyan can access Facebook, Twitter and other social networks as opposed to radio or TV and IEBC should reach out to them through such platforms,"he added.

The chairman added that messages passed through social media spread faster and within a short time to reach to millions of Kenyans.

"Social media has become the main communication tool in modern society and it is the best place you can rapidly spread messages ,"he said. He added that TNA will utilise social media in calling out on its members to register in their numbers.
