Kangundo District Hospital in Machakos County is under investigation after the death of infants two weeks ago.
Speaking during a visit of the facility, Seme MP Dr James Nyikal, who is also a member of parliament health commission, confirmed the deaths stating that investigations were ongoing.
"As parliament health commission we have sought information from county health officers, hospital staff and regulatory body of the ministry and we have found that one full time baby, two extremely premature babies, and a mildly premature baby died in a span of two days, " said Nyikal.
On Thursday, the hospital was visited by medical inspectors and government officials led by James Nyikal, Muhammud Nuala, David Yumbya of Kenya Medical Professional Directors Board, Kangundo Member of Parliament Stephen Mule, and Machakos County minister for health Naomi Mutie as part of the investigation process.
Naomi reassured Machakos residents that in a span of two weeks the cause of the babies' death would have been established.
“We are here to investigate what transpired in this hospital that led to the death of the babies that were in premature nursery. We will have a clear answer in two weeks," said Naomi.
The incident, which happened on October 14, 2015, has raised speculations with reports indicating that the infants were put in support machines that had broken down.
These reports, however, are yet to be established.
