Residents in Kiambu sub county have on Friday been urged to attend a blood group test on Saturday in order to be able to identify their blood groups.
Speaking from his office, the Kenya Red Cross Kiambu coordinator Stephen Ng’ang’a said that the exercise will be done on Saturday at the Kiambu Red Cross offices starting at 9am to 4pm. He said that a tent will be structured outside where the exercise will take place. The coordinator said that it will be happening for free and all residents are therefore encouraged to go.
He said that most residents don't know their blood group and that most of them don't even see the need to. He noted that most residents find it important only during crucial moments such as when they need people to donate blood.
Ng'anga also revealed that knowing your blood group can also help in knowing your health problems. He gave an example of how a person with blood group O is unlikely to get a heart attack but most likely to have stomach ulcers.
"I want to urge Kiambu residents to come out in large numbers on Saturday in order to know their your blood group. Apart from that, we are also going to educate you on matters to do with your blood group," said the coordinator.
