Residents of Kiamumbi in Kiambu Town Constituency have raised concern over rising insecurity.

The residents now want the police to beef up surveillance in the area.

Speaking to this writer on Monday, the residents said that cases of crime are steadily rising in the area.

Jane Wachira, a trader, said that she is forced to close work early for fear of being attacked by a gang that is said to be terrorising residents.

“We are urging the police to intensify security and deal with criminal elements that are causing havoc in this area,” she said.

Ms Wachira cited an incident where a shop was broken into at Kiambaa Town last week with the thieves stealing property of unknown value.

Boniface Njeru, a bodaboda operator at Kiambaa Town said that cases of crime being reported are causing fear among the operators.

“We are concerned over cases of crime that are being reported and our appeal is to police to beef up security in this region,” he said.

The bodaboda rider alleged that the thugs are targeting bodaboda operators and businessmen.

He said that bodaboda riders are afraid of conducting their work at night, a move he said has seen their business go down.

The locals want their area Member of Parliament Jude Njomo to intervene and address the matter, by ensuring security is restored in the area.

Last week, Kiambu County Commissioner Alex Nkoyo said that police will not stop in the fight against crime.

The commissioner who opened police posts in Gatundu South said that police will remain committed to fighting criminal elements.

Nkoyo intimated that crime rates had declined but said that police will intensify patrols and crack the weep on criminal gangs.
