Kibera tenants have been urged to be careful when handling electricity in their homes to avert fatal accidents.

This call has been made by the chairman of tenants in kibera Henry Mwokari amid speculation that the cause of a fire which consumed more thirteen houses in Kibera recently was related to electricity.

A section of residents who were affected says the fire is believed to have been caused by a heater which was left plugged in.

"We have now known that one of the tenants left the heater on while there was no power. When power was later connected, the heater burned the plastics in the house and later burst to other houses. The fire spread very first since the gas cylinders were in the houses and due to the heat they burst," he said.

Mwokari has appealed to tenants to check  ensure they switch off all sockets before leaving their houses to avoid similar incidents due to negligence.

"We have continually wasted our resources and people left without a place to live due to the careless behavior of some of the tenants. Any person who will be found to be the cause of a fire outbreak should be answerable," added Mwokari.
