Most of the beggars in Kibera and its environs claim that they are disabled.

Speaking today at the DC market, Ken Omondi, a resident said that people are taking advantage of disabled people to make money.

“Many beggars in Kibera do not hail or reside in Kibera some of them are brought by people from other places to come and beg in the slums. It is very bad to take advantage of disabled people to use them make money for other people to benefit. I urge the residents to refrain from helping these beggars,” said Omondi.

“Sensitise the disabled so that they can defend themselves against greedy people who use them for their own selfish gains,’’ added Omondi.

He concluded by terming begging as the barbaric way of life.
