Farmers in Kong'asis, Uasin Gishu county complain of making losses as passion fruit demand goes down forcing them to sell their fruits at low prices.
According to Jackson Kibet, one of the farmers, in the past one month, one kilogram of passion fruits used to cost Kshs. 100 but it has currently dropped to Kshs. 50.
"We are forced to sell them at a loss because of its perishable nature," he said.
"We used to have many brokers who used to purchase our fruits but recently, they are no where to be seen," said Titus Komen, another farmer.
Most farmers have been making a lot of money by selling the fruits thus attracting more farmers to join the business therefore supply is more than demand. This arises as farmers were expecting to make a lot of profit in this festive season.
