Speaking at separate events on Sunday, the leaders cited rumours that circulated on social media that Simeon Nyachae had passed on.

Nyaribari Chache politician James Kenani said if regulations are not put in place, social media is likely to cause havoc in the country.

"Most of us, if not all, like social media like Facebook, Twitter and WhatsApp. However, some people are using them wrongly by spreading rumours, like the latest incident where it was falsely reported that Simeon Nyachae has died," Kenani said.

Mzee Ongaki Birundu from Kisii town challenged CAK to conduct investigations and bring those who peddled the rumour to book.

"We want steps taken against the person who posted that false information to serve as an example to the rest," he said.

Pastor Robert Okindo of Gekomu District SDA church noted that it was wrong to pronounce someone dead yet he is alive.
