Kisii University has rolled out a common teaching and examination programme between the main campus and satellite campuses.
This is one of the strategies the university has adopted especially after it’s campuses had reportedly risked closure by the Commission for University Education (CUE) over poor standards.
The programme is aimed at setting quality standards of higher education across all the satellite campuses to ensure they conform to the same system as at the main campus.
All students pursuing same courses in the different campuses will be subjected to an equal course outline and content.
Moreover, there will be a common examination for same courses which will be set from the main campus and distributed to other campuses, having similar questions and marking schemes.
Prof Kibiwott Kurgat, the Dean faculty of Information Sciences, said the decision was reached at after the university senate noted a difference in the content in some of the campuses.
"We found out that many students pursuing same courses in the satellite campuses were getting first class honours than those in main campus,” said Kurgat.
“That's why we adopted a common course content and examinations to ensure quality and fairness," added Kurgat.
He added that other universities had already begun the system and main campus was not an exemption.
