Public service vehicles plying the Kisumu-Busia highway have accused the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) officials of wrongly targeting them.
According to the motorists, the authority officials are always harassing them even when there are no valid reasons to do so.
They claim that, when the officials are carrying out operations they are forced to either seek alternative routes or quit business for the day.
“Whenever officials are conducting checks, we can t use this road because no matter what we do they always find mistakes with our vehicles, even when there is none,” said Chris Okinda.
The drivers while speaking on Monday morning said that, they incur a lot of losses due to the crackdown over trumped up charges by NTSA.
“My boss expects me to give him something at the end of the day, and I also want my share, but how is that going to be possible when I can’t do my job in peace,” said Lameck Mweu.
The public transport operators are now calling on the authority to bring back sanity on the roads by punishing those who break the law instead of targeting innocent drivers.
Speaking to this writer, the drivers said they have been left to face the brunt of the officers as they have nothing to do.
They were reacting to the Saturday crackdown that left many people stranded.
Efforts to reach NTSA officers operating in the area were futile.
