Over 5,000 registered members of the Kenya National Union of Teachers Nakuru branch, participated in the voting of new officials at Afraha High School.
The branch elections which were presided over by the County Labour office, saw Mungai Muhia who garnered 3,300 votes declared the new secretary general in a hotly contested battle between him and Anthony Njoroge who gathered 1,800 votes.
Joseph arap Bii was declared as the chairman, while others included; Kaburi Kuria as vice chairman while James Omao is the new treasurer.
Paul Muiru won the post of assistant secretary general, Maina Kirumi, the new assistant treasurer while Regina Ngeni was voted as representative for people with special needs.
The vote scheduled to start at 9am in the morning was delayed due to logistical issues, forcing the vote tallying to end at 11pm.
The county Labor officer Mr Lawrence Karanja, thanked the members for conducting the elections peacefully.
“We were able to conduct free, fair and peaceful elections due to the support of the members, support of the administration and the cooperation of the aspirants in the various posts.” Added, the Labor officer.
