KUPPET might soon sue the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) over the job evaluation exercise being done to teachers by the SRC.
KUPPET wants the exercise which kicked off on Monday stopped.
According to KUPPET chairman, Omboko Milemba, the SRC and Teachers Service Commission (TSC) did not consult KUPPET on the template to be used in the exercise. Milemba said he made numerous requests but both TSC and SRC failed to accept the consultation plea.
Milemba advised the commission to use criteria that reflect different jobs done by teachers during the evaluation exercise.
‘‘I don’t know why SRC is carrying out the exercise. I don’t know the outcome of this. It might be a challenge to the ongoing salary negotiations,’’ he said.
He accused SRC of violating the constitution saying the exercise must involve workers. He said teachers are the workers but they should be represented by their union which is KUPPET.
On its side, the SRC led by Sarah Serem says the exercise is meant to make a standardised pay structure to all public officers to their work. Job evaluation exercise is meant to evaluate all public servants in Kenya.
