The crimes against humanity charges facing the Deputy President (DP), William Ruto and former Journalist, Joshua Sang at the International Criminal Court (ICC), should be dropped at once to end anxiety ahead of the general elections in Kenya, an MP has said.
Nyaribari Chache MP Richard Tong’i said the more the two cases drag, the more anxiety this was causing in the country and there was need for the case to be terminated.
“Now that the crucial recanted evidence the ICC prosecutor, Fatou Bensouda was relying on has been dismissed by the Appeals Chamber, the only option left to the court is to drop the charges immediately to enable this country move on’’, he added
Tong’I said the earlier the case was dropped the better since the election date is drawing nearer, adding that dragging the case only continues to keep Kenyans in suspense.
Speaking at Kiogoro in his constituency early today the Mp said what the international community needs now is to let Kenyans move on, and assist in building confidence and trust among Kenyans ahead of the 2017 polls.
He said the ICC continued persistence on the DP’s case was only doing more harm than good, and added that leaders have now learned a big lesson from The Hague experience.
