Machakos chief health officer has said residents in the county will continue suffering from minor diseases if they do not observe and maintain hygiene.
Speaking in his office on Wednesday, Dr Collins Sila said many of the diseases reported in many areas around the county were as a result of not observing good hygiene.
Sila said Machakos residents, especially children, were reporting to local health facilities with cases of preventable diseases brought about by lack of observing proper hygiene.
“These diseases are minor but can be fatal if not handled early enough,” said Sila.
He further noted that most of the diseases that are widespread among children are mainly brought about by ignorance from parents concerning the necessary cleanliness requirements.
The officer cited typhoid, amoeba and cholera as some of the diseases that are regarded very lightly by the patients but could lead to death if not treated early.
He urged all persons to observe personal and public hygiene in order to avoid unnecessary illnesses that are affecting society and making the health institutions buy drugs for diseases that can be contained.
