Maseno University students will on Wednesday go to the ballot without aspirants in the presidential race, after they failed to meet the required conditions.

The aspirants in the coveted presidential race were either barred on academic or disciplinary grounds or both.

The presidential aspirants have been campaigning all along only to be locked out at the last minute something that has caused outrage among their supporters.

"This is so unfair, we have been campaigning for months in order for our candidate to win only to be told that he will not vie just days to the elections," said Gregory Ochieng.

The presidential race for the Students Organisation of Maseno University had attracted four candidates who have all been locked out.

Walter Mabonga, Ricky Nyakach and Omondi Allan were locked out on academic grounds.

Boniface Oduory was locked out on disciplinary grounds.

Other executive positions such as the vice president, secretary general and the deputy saw only one candidate cleared in each category, meaning that they will not have competition.

Previously, academic qualifications did not have an impact on the candidature of the aspirants, but since its introduction, many students have been left out.

It is however is not clear if the institution will organise a by-election to elect students for the positions with no candidates.
