Nakuru and Narok counties have been rocked with violence at their borders in the recent days with both governments trying to find a lasting solution that will lead to peaceful co-existence.
In an attempt to show his commitment in ending the clashes, Nakuru Governor Kinuthia Mbugua on Thursday led a high profile delegation to Ndefo and Chebitet areas to engage residents on how best to find a solution.
The governor cautioned area youths against being the masterminds of the clashes, and instead urged them to be peace ambassadors and ensure that both communities live in harmony.
According to Mbugua, this can only be achieved if youths from the two regions work as a block and respect each other’s property.
“As youth from the two communities, you should work together in ensuring that such incident do not happen. We are neighbours and ought to respect each other especially our properties that is the main area of contention here,” he said.
He cautioned youths against engaging in conflicts saying such misinformed perceptions were making the two regions to lag behind in development.
“As a government, we are not ready to allow a few individuals to derail us as we strive to make our county better. We have put in so much effort in building and preaching for peace and we should maintain it at all costs,” he noted.
The security meeting was held after the residents demonstrated on Tuesday and the better part of Wednesday after more than 15 cows were stolen from a local farmer and five found slaughtered and their carcasses dumped on the roadside in the area.
