Athi River MCA has said the Machakos County government should allocate more funds to wards so as to spur development in the regions.

Michael Mutua, said the leadership of the government through its executive arm should approve the Ward Development Funds to be managed by members of the Machakos County assembly.

Addressing journalists in Athi River Town on Tuesday, Mutua said it was unfair for MCA's to be left out of development by not allocating them development funds.

"It is not in order for the executive of Machakos government to delay approving ward development funds that are urgently needed by MCAs for development of their respective wards," said Mutua.

Mutua argued that apart from legislative and oversight roles of the county legislatures, they should be allowed to manage the funds just like their national counterparts manage constituency development funds in their constituencies.

The MCA said the fund would be of great importance to the locals given that the wards are within the grassroots and therefore its implementation would create more impact to the residents as compared to other available public funds meant for developing communities.

Mutua said he would push for the allocation of the fund through sponsoring a motion to the county assembly geared towards speedy allocation of the fund by the Machakos County government.
