A member of the county assembly in Nakuru County has told off legislators who are planning to legalise prostitution.
Nominated MCA Margaret Kiiru on Thursday admonished MPs planning to legalise prostitution saying such a move was misguided and aimed at exploiting women who engage in the illegal business.
Instead, Kiiru advised that an empowerment initiative be put in place to ensure women do not sell their bodies to meet their needs.
The debate to legalise prostitution gained momentum after an orgy of killings aimed at sex workers in Nakuru town with MPs Samuel Arama (Nakuru Town West) and David Gikaria (Nakuru Town East) leading the crusade.
Kiiru was speaking in Nakuru town.
