Kikuyu sub-county director of Alcoholic Drinks Control Board Wesly Borwe has called on parents to supervise their children during this holiday to prvent them from landing in trouble.

Speaking on Monday in his office in Kikuyu, Borwe said cases of children indulging in alcohol in the area are on the rise, adding that a majority of the incidents are greatly influenced by parents.

He said the children at times imitated their parents and other adults in society, and it was important for parents to be very strict and supervise them in whatever they engage in.

He revealed that since the schools closed for the December holiday, there were many cases of children being arrested in adults entertaining joints such as bars and discos.

He said the board will take legal action on parents whose children will be found in such joints for lack of supervision.

He said there were also parents who were going to such places with their children stating that they will be punished harshly by the law.

"Some parents greatly influence their children into alcoholism by going with them to such joints. Some even send them such drinks. The board will punish such parents accordingly," said the chairman.

He also warned bar owners against admitting minors into their premises saying those who against the rules will be prosecuted.

He said strict measures are being taken to ensure minors do not engage in such vices.

He revealed how most children get influenced by their peers into drugs and premarital sex.

He, therefore, said it was the duty of parents to supervise their children to curb such cases.
