Nakuru East MP David Gikaria on Wednesday surprised people in the constituency when he offered money to pregnant women to appreciate them for the "good work they have done."

The Jubilee legislator asked pregnant women who were attending a meeting to step forward before being given Sh1,000 each.

The MP said he offered to give the cash as an appreciation to them as the women ensured procreation continued.

“We all dream and want to see the country with future leaders. We feel the pain and cannot help when women do not have the ability to give birth since we will have a shortage of leaders to drive our development agenda,” he said.

Gikaria urged the youth to abandon illicit brews that could cause infertility.

He was speaking on Wednesday in Nakuru where he was issuing bursary funds forms for his constituents.

Gikaria appealed to the women to take advantage of the free maternity service that was introduced by the Jubilee administration terming it as a “gift to the women” from President Uhuru Kenyatta.
