Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri has lamented that people with disabilities have not been considered in terms of access to buildings in the country.
The MP said many buildings in the county and other major towns of the country have not taken into consideration the mobility of persons with disabilities.
Ngunjiri, while addressing a public gathering in his constituency on Thursday during the United Nations International Day for People with Disabilities, said he will prepare a bill that will compel building owners in the country to ensure their buildings have got ease of access for disabled.
“Besides being forgotten by society, people with disabilities have been sidelined even when it comes to the issue of accessing buildings in their areas,” he said.
He also said that, “I will prepare a bill and table it in Parliament to come up with a law that will have all buildings built in a way that movement for a person with disability is made easy,” he stated.
He told those with disabilities in his area not to worry as “no MP in the national Parliament would give a cold shoulder in supporting this bill because we feel your pain.”
Ngunjiri donated food and clothing among other items to the people with disabilities urged the community to render their support to those who need it.
Bahati constituency in projected statistics by the MP has over 1,000 disabled people.
