Professor Olive Mugenda will continue to serve as Kenyatta University's vice chancellor until the 18th of January 2016 after labor relations court reversed its earlier orders of sending the professor on a long terminal leave pending a hearing challenging to remove her from office.
In his Tuesday ruling, Justice Nduma Nderi removed the orders previously given by Justice Wasilwa and directed that Mugenda continues to conduct her office duties for 14 days which will expire on the day the case will resume in court.
The directive comes barely weeks after Okiya Omtatah moved to court and filed a case challenging the position of Mugenda as the vice chancellor citing that she had completed her term of service.
Omtatah had challenged the court through a statement that Mugenda was due to retire in 6 months and no public advertisement was made for the position.
Mugenda who has in the current past been credited by students, management and parents for her mega projects she has initiated at the university has earned several awards.
She has apart from initiating development and facilities at the university helped increase students enrollment to 70,000.
