Machakos County Senator Johnston Muthama has said the county government has no right to announce to investors the existence of free land without consulting residents and stakeholders.

This comes following an announcement by the county government, on the availability of free public land that is open to investors.

Addressing journalists in Kangundo Town on Tuesday, Muthama termed the move as a selfish step by a section of county leaders.

“The move to declare Machakos public land free for any investment is vested on residents and the county's leadership. We should all be consulted about use of available land before a conclusive decision is made,” said Muthama.

Muthama further stated that it was unlawful for both the national and county governments to randomly announce free land open to investors.

The senator said he will move to court to block the move.

Howover, Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua defended the move, terming it as a development model.
