Drivers in Nakuru town have welcomed the eCITIZEN initiative introduced by the National Transport Safety Authority saying that the technology will reveal the genuine drivers countrywide.
They said that this is because for so long, corrupt officials have been giving out fake license to unqualified drivers who have been misbehaving on roads hence causing accidents which claim the lives of innocent Kenyans.
They urged Matatu saccos to verify the licenses of those seeking employment through eCITIZEN before they employ anyone as a driver in their organisation.
Allan Maina, a driver with 4NTE Sacco said that the technology will streamline the matatu industry as only qualified personnels will be allowed behind the wheels.
"This technology will reduce the percentage of road accidents considerably," said Maina.
The technology was recently introduced by NTSA to help drivers and other matatu operators differentiate between fake licenses and the genuine ones. For one to verify, sms DL to 22340 and answer the simple questions.
