Ndumberi ward Member of County Assembly (MCA) Ngugi Uiri has challenged youths in the ward to be innovative and use their skills to create employment.
Speaking to youths at Ndumberi shopping center on Thursday, the MCA noted that young people have skills and knowledge which they can use to create jobs.
He said that most of the youths in the area university and college graduates adding that they can easily create jobs instead of wasting time looking for white collar jobs.
“I want to encourage youths to be innovative and use the skills they have to create job opportunities for themselves and others,” he said.
The MCA discouraged youths against preferring white collar jobs and instead told them to embrace self employment.
“Young people who are graduates should stop this mentality that they have to work in an office and instead embrace entrepreneurship or start something that will earn them income,” he advised.
Mr. Uiri urged the youth to apply for Uwezo and Biashara Funds that are being given by the county to start businesses.
He said that through the funds they will be able to start business enterprise of their choice and help curb unemployment.
The MCA also urged youths, women and persons living with disabilities to apply for tenders.
The MCA said that he will push for creation of employment opportunities to enable jobless youths to get job opportunities and better their lives.
