Ugly scenes brought up stagnant rain waters in Bahati constituency will soon be a thing of the past after area MP launched a programme aimed at re-carpeting roads and opening drainage systems to facilitate free flow of water.

The project will be funded by Constituency Development Fund (CDF).

Speaking after overseeing a ground breaking ceremony at the Maili Kumi market on Friday, Kimani Ngunjiri noted that move was triggered by the long suffering his people were being subjected to because of inconveniences brought up by the on-going heavy rains.

Ngunjiri said that his office contracted Nyoro Contractors, a renowned local construction company to facilitate the project, further revealing that more of such projects were in the offing starting January 2016.

“This is a joint effort between my office and Nyoro Construction Company. We chose to start with the Maili Kumi market to promote trade and open up our area to many external investors,” he said.

This, he believes is the best solution to the unmanaged rain water that had formed huge gullies across the market making it very difficult for traders at the market.

He also called on the County Public Health and Sanitation department to work with his office and other relevant authorities in controlling dirty rainy water that had become a nuisance at the Bahati Dispensary.

“Once the market is renovated and our roadways and culverts are opened up, flood water that had caused problems at our dispensary on the other side of the road will be diverted to other grounds,” he said.

Although the area has not experienced a direct effect of the on-going El Nino rains, Ngunjiri has expressed his commitment in improving infrastructure to ease movement of people, goods and services for a more developed Bahati.
