Gatundu North sub county commissioner Daniel Nyamiti has ordered the immediate closure of bars and arrest of unscrupulous bar owners in Kamwangi who are selling liquor to teenagers.

Speaking during a security meeting with the chiefs held at Kamwangi meeting hall on Tuesday, Nyamiti raised concern over the rate at which children have been accessing the social places which are legally prohibited to the underage.

He ordered for the immediate crackdown and arrest of both the owners of the bars and the teenagers caught.

"Children under the age of 18 years are not allowed in bars or pubs. We cannot allow the destruction of children on our watch. Those allowing children in bars should be immediately arrested and their licences revoked. All bar owners are subject to this directive and the police will do a thorough check while on patrol," he told chiefs.

"My security team will not sit and watch as lives of the youth in this area are destroyed by irresponsible bar owners. Bar owners should follow liquor licensing laws if they don’t want to have a problem with the law," he added.

Nyamiti whose reaction was followed by an arrest of two 17 year aged school boys in Kamwangi Kanini Kega Pub enjoying alcohol on Monday said that his team will tirelessly work to ensure that no teenager is lured into drinking especially during the festive season.

He asked chiefs and police officers in the area to be vigilant during the December long holiday by protecting children from immorality and curbing any other form of lawlessness.
