One woman succumbed to injuries while her husband is in critical condition at Kiambu Level 4 Hospital after their car collided head-on with a lorry at Kiambu town near the Kiambu County headquarters on Monday afternoon.

Confirming the incident, Kiambu OCPD Stephen Ng’etich, said that the Sasini Company lorry was headed to Kiambu town from Ndumberi when its brakes failed causing it to slam into the personal car which was headed in the opposite direction.

According to Jessica Wacuka, a witness, the weight of the lorry dragged the personal car for more than 50 metres before both vehicles landed in a ditch with the lorry completely crashing the car.

“We have lost one woman and three men are in the hospital. The woman died on her way to the hospital, one man is in critical condition and the other two are stable but being monitored by the medics,” said an officer.

The driver of the lorry and his conductor sustained serious injuries and are receiving medical attention at the same hospital.

The body of the deceased was taken to Kiambu Funeral Home for preservation.

The police boss has urged all motorists to be vigilant while on the roads and take care of other road users. He also urged the motorists to ensure their vehicles are in order when they are driving so as to avoid risking the lives of residents.
