Police officers in Kithimani area in Yatta sub county on Friday arrested 4 school boys who were found with bhang in a matatu that was stopped at a NYS checkpoint.
Confirming the incident was the Kithimani OCS James Wairagu who said that police officers at the checkpoint smelt bhang and that is why they stopped the vehicle and conducted a search. He said that the vehicle was found carrying 5 excess passengers as the police also recovered 4 rolls of bhang and a bottle of beer from the 4 students.
"Traffic police were doing their job when they smelt bhang as the said matatu came to a stop; after searching they found the driver culpable of carrying 5 excess passengers and 4 students smoking bhang and drinking alcohol," said Wairagu.
The officer confirmed that many students in the sub county have been arrested lately for possessing drugs which is worrying. He said that the accused persons are being held at the Kithimani police station as they await to appear in court on Monday, 23rd November 2015.
