Lecturers of public universities together with non-teaching staff are set to strike come next week.
This is as a result of their many demands not having been met for a while now. They said if their demands are not met soon, they will strike at the end of this week.
The university academic staff union secretary general, K’olale Muga and his fellow union leader, Mukhwaya said the union has give the government up to Friday to address the issue, failure to which, they will go on strike.
Mukhwaya said that the university chancellors’ want to paralyse academic programs during a meeting that was held at the university of Nairobi main campus.
University students from Kibera, through their social media group, complained about the impending danger and asked the government to act quickly.
‘‘I am from a private university but I have friends in public universities. It will be dangerous if the lecturers strike. If the situation is not quickly handled, it will cause more danger,’’ said Allan Telewa, one Kibera youth.
