The Kenya Red Cross Society Nakuru chapter has rolled out a plan to educate residents in Rhonda estate on HIV/Aids.

Society head of operations Innocent Kimani on Thursday revealed that the weekend event which is aimed at stemming the spread of the scourge within the county will be held at the Mazembe grounds.

He added that the campaign which started two weeks ago in Tanners estate is seeks to enlighten residents on facts about HIV/Aids transmission and conducting tests.

"Just like we did in Tanners, this weekend we will be in Rhonda and all we seek is to sensitise residents about this deadly disease so that we can collectively combat it," he said.

He said the Tanners campaign was a success and called on Rhonda residents to turn up in large numbers noting that their presence was much needed as they finalise the drive in the expansive Nakuru West sub-county.

The National Aids Control Council recently released a report which indicated that about 66,000 residents were living with the disease, out of which about 4,000 were new infections acquired this year alone.

The relevant county authorities and health officials however directed blame on commercial sex workers and truck drivers over the high infection rate currently being witnessed in the county.
