Cord leader Raila Odinga has called on his supporters to turn up in large numbers and register during the mass voter registration exercise which begins mid this month.

Mr Odinga was speaking at Boya in Ahero Kisumu county on Saturday when he attended the funeral of Odote K'Ojiem.

Odote was a member of the Luo Council of Elders until his death.

He said many people from the region either did not register as voters or failed to cast their votes in the 2013 election.

"I only lacked 8,000 votes for us to go for a presidential re-run where I could have beaten Jubilee hands down. I now request you to go out and register in big numbers and vote for me next year. The rest leave it for me," he said.

Odinga also assured his supporters that this time round he will not complain of rigging.

"I want to tell you that next year I will not come here to tell that I have been rigged," he added.

Mr Odinga has claimed for a long time that he has been rigged twice in presidential elections.

Other dignitaries present at the funeral were Kisumu Governor Jack Ranguma, his Deputy Ruth Odinga, Senator Nyong'o and Nyanza region MPs.

Speaking at the funeral, Ranguma also urged the people to register and ensure they cast their votes come next year.
