A section of Soweto residents have expressed their frustrations over the recurring bed bugs problem in the area.

They said on Tuesday their efforts to tame the parasite have not borne any fruit.

John Kinyanjui, one of the residents who took this writer to his house to witness the scale of the problem, said he cannot sleep at night due to an uncomfortable environment.

He further said his efforts to get rid of the insects have been futile as none of the insecticides he uses have proved effective.

"We are suffering here," he said, and continued; "This is the type of life we are leading."

Unfortunately, he said no one has been concerned over their plight.

"No one cares about our predicament. The suffering has been an individual affair," he lamented.

He complained that some unscrupulous businessmen have taken advantage of their suffering to exploit them by giving them fake insecticides.

This, he claimed, has even compounded their suffering.

A similar complaint was raised by Elizabeth Akoth who said the problem was affecting her children who now spend sleepless nights and often absent from school.

When contacted, Soweto area village elder Mr John Okinyi said he has received complaints from several residents who need help.

He, therefore, appealed to various authorities to intervene.
