It is the responsibility of residents to ensure their where they live is clean as a dirty environment is a hazard.
A clean environment at living premises or areas of business is highly recommended. Traders that operate their daily business in a clean environment will have more customers.
Garbage disposal in Kibera slums has been a problem and still remains a problem up to date since the residents seem not to be responsible for environment cleanliness.
Residents at Darajani village area have now set up a dumpsite in the area for dumping used and broken bottles and other plastic materials which is illegal.
“Despite the continuous campaigns on environment sanitation and cleanliness from NEMA and NYS residents still have not changed the habit of throwing wastes,’’ said Milda Achieng’, a resident at Darajani village.
She said that residents should be sensitised by the relevant authority on the need to keep the environment clean which should include proper litter disposal because as they say, cleanliness is nearness to God.
