Traders at the Thindigua trading centre in Kiambu constituency have asked the Kiambu county government to dig trenches along the roads in a bid to improve the drainage systems in the area.

According to the residents, the drainage system in the area is poor and worsens during the rainy season.

The residents complained that the recent rains experienced in the area led to the blockage of drainage systems making the water to spill to their compounds and business premises.

Jeff Muroki, a boda boda operator said that poor drainage is a challenge in the area noting that during heavy rains, businesses are interrupted as water flows everywhere.

“I think that the county government should take the issue of drainage seriously and repair the systems before the onset of the next rains,” he said.

The traders stated that they are forced to close their business or remain indoors during heavy rains.

“Our county government should take early measures and repair drainage systems to avert damages that we often experience during the rainy season,” said Ann Wanjiku, a resident.

The residents also urged the government to renovate roads which flood whenever it rains.

Speaking on Friday last week, County Roads Executive Engineer Njeri Gatabaki assured residents that the county government would address the issue of poor drainage.
