Thousands of Kitutu Masaba constituency parents and students in various universities and colleges thronged to Tombe constituency offices to collect bursary application forms as the application for bursary allocation for 2016 edition officially kicked off.
The parents from all six wards queued for longer hours due to congestion as some had to stay outside the constituency offices compound due to scarcity of space.
CDF chairperson Mr Stephen Nyachwaya on Monday confirmed having issued over 3000 forms and said the exercise will continue for the next five days for the sake of serving people from distant places in the constituency.
“We have received over 3000 guests and many of them were issued with application forms. I am happy how my team managed to control them since it was the largest number ever witnessed since we assumed office in 2013,” he said.
Nyachwaya said the committee will allocate the funds transparently based on the information of the students that will be certified by local administrators in the forms maintaining that the neediest cases will be given special attention first.
“We know that the constituency has many students in the institutions of higher learning and we are trying to serve them without discrimination. We will however, give orphans and other very needy students first priority although all applicants will be supported provided they qualify. The office ensures that things are done in a transparent manner,” he said.
He said the office would delegate issuance of forms to ward level to ease congestion at the main offices and insisted that university students will be receiving Sh10,000 with students in tertiary colleges receiving up to Sh6,000.
“We may delegate issuance of forms to ward level because of the congestion we experienced today. The allocation to university students remains Sh10,000 and middle-level colleges Sh6,000 unless it’s a special case,” he said.
