Traders at Maseno market are calling on the county government to expand the facility to accommodate new traders.
They said the town's population has been growing over the recent times and yet basic facilities have not been expanded.
Speaking to this writer on Monday on the phone, Maseno Traders Association secretary general Paul Okoth said traders are competing for the little space available a situation he said might cause conflict and friction.
“Traders are flocking here daily and the best thing we can do is to ensure we have room to accommodate everyone because no one wants to get into a conflict with another over mere space,” he said.
The association secretary general added that many traders see opportunity in Maseno town due to the students at Maseno University whose numbers are on the rise.
“ The county government is the one with powers to expand because the available land belongs to them. If we had powers we could do it ourselves,” added Okoth.
He said said the county government’s stalls set up in the town are over stretched and this scenario has forced many people to set up structures.
“When people set up structures, without plan, our town is set for disorganisation that's why we are calling on the county government to come in and ensure everybody has been accommodated,” said Okoth.
