There was a time when the local photographer was an integral part of our lives. Christmas and New Year celebrations would not be complete without a visit by the whole family to the photographer.
However, things are different today and that profession has really changed.
Almost every family now owns one or several camera-enabled phones and they prefer to take their own pictures. The printed hard copy photos seem to be losing relevance and a lot of younger families are now preferring to store their photos in their devices.
Photographers, however, are still soldiering on. With the festive season being a time for memorable moments, Nakuru snappers are becoming creative.
One photographer in Nakuru has given his clients a chance to “pose” and take a photo with big names in the country. At his highly decorated stall in Pondamali, he gives you a chance to take a photo with either US president Barrack Obama, Kenya’s President Uhuru Kenyatta or CORD leader Raila Odinga.
Mr Thomas Njogu , the photographer, said:
“Nakuru people tend to be very political. These leaders have almost a cult-like following here and business is doing well.”
