Women leaders in Gusii have been challenged to come together to empower other women in the society and help them to know their rights.
According to some women who talked to us, they accused their women leaders of sidelining them since most of them have not initiated any projects which can empower them in the society.
Moraa Onyoni, a leader of a women group based at Matunwa said that their colleagues who are in power have sidelined them and they do not even visit them in the rural areas to know the difficulties they go through.
"We have a new constitution where women have been given an opportunity like any other," said Onyoni.
"so we need our leaders to initiate some projects which will help us to develop. We need our elected women to come up with those empowerment projects,” added Onyoni.
In addition, she said as the world was celebrating the International Women Day early this week some women did not participate in celebrations due to some challenges which need to be addressed by their leaders.
“Some of us did not enjoy the day since we were not involved in any celebration," said Onyoni.
"As we had hoped that our women leaders will organise a celebration for us, we urge them to remember us," she said.
