The new Egerton University Vice-Chancellor Prof Rose Mwonya has urged women and youths to be aggressive and go for managerial positions so as to contribute to the various sectors in the country.
Prof Mwonya has also vowed to fight gender bias at the institution during her tenure.
'There are a number of job opportunities available in the top management, this is the time youths and women should wake up and go for them without fear. My term will provide opportunities for qualified women and youth to be part of the government`s quest in pursuing practical and lasting solutions to socio-economic issues affecting women and youth," Prof Mwonya stated.
The incoming VC was addressing journalists on Saturday after a two-day gender mainstreaming conference in Nakuru.
The varsity boss also observed that women and youth bear the solutions of social and economic challenges in Kenya stating that it is time for them to chat mitigation for their focal problems.
She also expressed commitment in completing initiatives and development projects began by her predecessor Prof James Tuitowek who is scheduled to retire in mid January next year.
"We are coming up with a program that will not only be based on known cost benefit principles but also on the dynamic demands of the global human resources market in order to make this institution a competitive human resource provider and a service institution." The VC added.
Prof Mwonya emerged the best in a hotly contested race during an interview held in October this year for the highest office at the university making her the first woman to head the institution and the fifth VC to lead a public university in the country.
