ODM nominated senator Daisy Kanaiza representing youths has challenged youths to stop idling but start small businesses that will improve their livelihoods.

Speaking during the Orange Democratic Movement officials party meeting in Eldoret on Tuesday, Kanaiza urged youths not to depend on white collar jobs but embrace self employment.

"It is sad that most youths are idle not because there are no employment opportunities but because they have refused to embrace self employment, which has untapped opportunities waiting to be exploited," she said.

The Senator also challenged youths not to be used by politicians to commit crime for their own selfish interests.

"We are approaching the electioneering period. I urge youths to ignore such politicians whose aim is to ruin their future," she advised.

She, however, challenged youths to register as voters for them to participate in the 2017 general election fully.

"Youths should stop complaining that people voted for the wrong leadership, but instead should apply for national IDs and register as voter's for them to participate in choosing the country’s leadership," Kanaiza said.

She said youths constitute 50 per cent of Kenya’s population and have an upper hand in voting leaders that will assist them.

"As youths, we have decided that we will only vote in leaders who will are ready to address challenges facing us," she added.
