A young man beat up his father to death after he told him to marry and eat from his own house, the High Court heard on Tuesday.
David Kipkosgei Chepseba is alleged to have hit his father Shadrack Chepseba severally with a piece of timber until he died after the old man told him to get married and to never eat his (father's) food again.
Chief Inspector Johnstone Kulemi told High Court Judge Maureen Odero that a grandson to the deceased identified only as Brian who witnessed the incident, told him that there was a strained relationship between the two because the deceased kept telling the accused to get himself a wife and fend for himself.
"Brian told me that he heard the old man quarrel with his son telling him to stop coming to his homestead for food and get married and that is when the accused picked up the piece of timber and started hitting him," he said.
He further told the court that the accused who's father succumbed to his injuries at Eldama Ravine District Hospital had earlier been charged with the death of his first-born son but was acquitted of the charges later.
Kipkosgei is alleged to have committed the act four years ago in Baringo.
The hearing proceeds on November 6.
