Assistant chiefs from Itumbe Location in Sameta Sub-County have been blamed for partly contributing to land succession conflicts in the area following their partisan handling of cases of succession of estates.

Area Chief Henry Mirera has lamented that some of his assistant chiefs meddle in estate successions through writing of conflicting letters to the beneficiaries of the estates, creating confusion in higher offices when such cases are taken for further direction and action.

Speaking to Hiviasa.com on Friday in his office, Mirera warned his juniors against circumventing the succession procedures to achieve their selfish gains to the detriment of the beneficiaries who struggle to access justice through a hard way.

"I am a chief and can testify that some of my colleagues and juniors really mess up with the estate succession procedures. We have cases where some assistant chiefs are corruptly manipulated to write conflicting letters certifying estate succession without following the succession law, “lamented Mirera.

He warned the public against using corrupt means to edge out other beneficiaries especially widows from their late husbands' estates as stipulated in the law.

He advised the public on the importance of having all the required succession documents particularly the death certificates-in the case of wives- and birth certificates for the children who are supposed to inherit the deceased's estates to avert legal loopholes that could be exploited by corrupt cartels to lock them out of the succession arrangement.
