Speaking on Tuesday during Mashujaa Day celebrations at Gusii Stadium, governor Ongwae said that the county government has bought several equipment meant to improve the health sector and to ensure quality service delivery to patients.

Among the equipment he mentioned were Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) that detects brain and spinal cord diseases.

He said that Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital will be the first hospital in western Kenya to offer the services.

He added that the county has partnered with the national government in a programme called 'Managed Equipment Services' to equip Gucha and Kisii hospitals with modern facilities, including X-Ray services and Intensive Care Units (ICU).

"Residents can get ICU services in Keumbu, Nyamache, Gesusu and Gucha hospitals. More ICU centres are being constructed at Nduru, Marani and Kenyenya. Our goal is to ensure that every sub county has an ICU," he said.

He also commended Kisii medics who demonstrated patience over delay in salary payments while their counterparts from other counties boycotted duties.
